Question by Kairan (K?’r?n): What would happen if i use regular speaker wire instead of “in wall” wire in the wall?
Best answer:
Answer by Robert W In the wall is fireproof wire. It’s a safety feature required by the building codes.
I would use it, because someday you may want to sell the house it might show up in a home inspection audit.
Question by rocken_heimer: How come my speakers won’t work?
Brand new PC. Changed default sound card to new, outboard sound card. I plugged that into the firewire port, downloaded the drivers, plugged the self-powered speakers into the wall and connected them to the sound card using the provided cables with quarter-inch jacks, rebooted… no sound. I checked in Settings/ Control Panel/ System and there’s no indication of a problem – it has detected the new soundcard, it says it’s working properly, but I still don’t have any sound. What am I not doing correctly, what am I forgetting? Do I have to play with the Sound Scheme thingie? Help! Thanks.

Answer by Just Curious I actually cannot understand what you mean by outboard cards but i know about pci-X16 sound cards.
To correct this problem you have to go to bios settings either by pressing F2 or del key during bootup process. No you should go to devices and disable onboard sound card or enable the new Sound Card

Question by maddog: how do you fix a power surge on computer speakers?
I have Klipsch ProMedia Ultra 2.0 computer speakers. I let my sister use them in England and she tried plugging them into the wall sockets overseas without a converter. Now they don’t work. So, is this a fixable issue or are they in a matter of speaking “toast” If they are repairable…how? Thanks for your help!
Best answer:
Answer by bljzzgrl More than likely they are “toast” in that situation.
You could try unplugging them for 48 hours and then using the converter, plug them back in and see (this is what you do if you have a brown out or blackout caused by a power surge.)

Question by Rox Tarr: What will be amplitude in mm of a typical sound wave coming from TV speakers ?
What changes occur in amplitude when a sound wave enters a concrete wall and exits it ?
What would be typical and approx. length of movement (in mm) of the molecule of the medium would be ?
I am looking for *amplitude* and not wavelength.
Best answer:
Answer by Ivan A You probably want to know what is the wavelength of the sound coming out of the TV speakers. The audible range is 20 Hz to 20 kHz, which is the range of frequencies of the sounds that are likely coming out of the speakers, produce a wavelength range of
lambda 1 = 331.3 / 20 = 16m = 16000mm
lambda 2 = 331.3 / 20E3 = 0.016m = 16mm
Edit: your question states “amplitude in mm”. Amplitude of sound waves is NOT measured in mm. In the case of waves traveling in air, the amplitude is measured in units of pressure. Power would be measured in either watts or dBm.
Question by Django: Hip/Hop-Rap Speakers?
I need some guys!! Please help, here are my criteria:
1. Must have multiple speakers, A Base Woofer etc.
2. A Remote or volume dial so i don’t have to be right next to them constantly.
3. My budget is £200 but anything under £80 i would give a pass to because…
4. I need a really high quality pair that will really increase my listening experience
5. They need to connect to my iPod and laptop (15 inch aluminum macbook pro)
(I don’t mind if i need to buy cables but as long as they have the connectivity potential its all good)
Thanks in advance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(it would help if some of the speakers could be wall mounted but not essential)
Question by Phreeq: Give speakers power inside a house and not a car?
I built a speaker boxx recently, and I realize that in a car you’d have to hook it up to an amp to get power to it, but is there a way to do this in an inside environment. So I can just plug it into a wall? I can plug them into anything I want, but there’s not enough power for it to get louder than a whisper, a very soft whisper.
Best answer:
Answer by James E Same principle you just need an indoor amp.
So I got these awesome wall decals from www.whatisblik.com and after they were put up, we really wanted to “Play” Super Mario. So we made it so the wall is interactive! So now, if you walk in my office and jump up to touch a coin or mushroom, they make the actual sound from the game! The speaker is in the ceiling tile right by the door. And yes, I am aware how high the nerd factor is on this one! Update 04.30.2011 Okay, so everyone always wants to know how I did this. So after over a year, I will finally let everyone know. I am not going to get too technical with step by step, but I will give everyone enough to get started. I will list my equipment and software, but there are many other setups and software that would work as well. 1. You will need a computer. I used an old iBook. 2. You will need a webcam. I used an old iSight connected to the iBook. 3. You will need speakers. I used some cheapy USB ones. 4. You will need some webcam software capable of motion sensing movement. I used EvoCam by www.evological.com 5. You will need to download sound clips of your sounds. I just searched around on Google until I found some .aif files of Super Mario Sounds 6. Now that you have everything, it’s pretty simple. You point the wecam at your wall. The higher to the ceiling the better. In your webcam software you setup multiple “motion sensor” boxes over the objects you want to make noise. For the actions, make it play the appropriate audio clip. That’s it! It will take you some …
Now – I also own a 40″ Samsung LCD 4065F 1080P LCD. Its mounted on the opposite wall. My plan is to have a cable go from my computer, up through the roof to my TV. My question is:
What cable / cables do I need to hook them together? Is it possible to do it with an HDMI connection?
I also have a set of Logitech Z 5500 speakers on the wall, hooked to the TV via optical. The speakers came with a 6 Channel direct cable, but its too short. What kind of cable can i run from the speakers to my computer (up the wall and through the roof) to make them work?
