Question by : How to Run Wires through a wall?
Hi, I am trying to wire speakers on a wall from a certain place in one room to another in the same room. I don’t want to see any wires though! I looked it up but it only comes up with how to drill a hole and put the wire THROUGH the wall into another room. I presume you would chisel the wall or something similar, get the wires in place and use filler over them but I don’t know for sure. Otherwise, it would be handy if someone knew the name for the white plastic things that act like a box and keep the wires inside them that you tend to see in public places; Like I said, I’d rather nothing at all but the ‘official’ name for the box wire coverer thing would be handy. Thank you! Cricketgd

Brand new PC. Changed default sound card to new, outboard sound card. I plugged that into the firewire port, downloaded the drivers, plugged the self-powered speakers into the wall and connected them to the sound card using the provided cables with quarter-inch jacks, rebooted… no sound. I checked in Settings/ Control Panel/ System and there’s no indication of a problem – it has detected the new soundcard, it says it’s working properly, but I still don’t have any sound. What am I not doing correctly, what am I forgetting? Do I have to play with the Sound Scheme thingie? Help! Thanks.

Best answer:

Answer by Just Curious
I actually cannot understand what you mean by outboard cards but i know about pci-X16 sound cards.

To correct this problem you have to go to bios settings either by pressing F2 or del key during bootup process. No you should go to devices and disable onboard sound card or enable the new Sound Card

I have Klipsch ProMedia Ultra 2.0 computer speakers. I let my sister use them in England and she tried plugging them into the wall sockets overseas without a converter. Now they don’t work. So, is this a fixable issue or are they in a matter of speaking “toast” If they are repairable…how? Thanks for your help!

Best answer:

Answer by bljzzgrl
More than likely they are “toast” in that situation.

You could try unplugging them for 48 hours and then using the converter, plug them back in and see (this is what you do if you have a brown out or blackout caused by a power surge.)

Question by Rox Tarr: What will be amplitude in mm of a typical sound wave coming from TV speakers ?
What changes occur in amplitude when a sound wave enters a concrete wall and exits it ?
What would be typical and approx. length of movement (in mm) of the molecule of the medium would be ?
I am looking for *amplitude* and not wavelength.

Best answer:

Answer by Ivan A
You probably want to know what is the wavelength of the sound coming out of the TV speakers. The audible range is 20 Hz to 20 kHz, which is the range of frequencies of the sounds that are likely coming out of the speakers, produce a wavelength range of

lambda 1 = 331.3 / 20 = 16m = 16000mm

lambda 2 = 331.3 / 20E3 = 0.016m = 16mm

Edit: your question states “amplitude in mm”. Amplitude of sound waves is NOT measured in mm. In the case of waves traveling in air, the amplitude is measured in units of pressure. Power would be measured in either watts or dBm.

I need some guys!! Please help, here are my criteria:
1. Must have multiple speakers, A Base Woofer etc.
2. A Remote or volume dial so i don’t have to be right next to them constantly.
3. My budget is £200 but anything under £80 i would give a pass to because…
4. I need a really high quality pair that will really increase my listening experience
5. They need to connect to my iPod and laptop (15 inch aluminum macbook pro)
(I don’t mind if i need to buy cables but as long as they have the connectivity potential its all good)
Thanks in advance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(it would help if some of the speakers could be wall mounted but not essential)
